At this point, there is really an app for everyone (especially cat lovers it seems!). That said, a slight adjustment in strategy can be very meaningful in showing results at this early stage of the app economy.

Here are a few tips to augment your mobile app strategy. We would love to hear from you if you have found success with anything in particular or if you feel other tips should be added to this list.

There‘s reason to build a presence beyond iOS

Apple through iOS has done wonders to drop the barrier to develop and monetize mobile applications, and the hardware powering this platform is among the most profitable in the world. When smartphones are considered, the iPhone makes up 30% of the installed base in the US. A strategy that only focuses solely on the iPhone abandons 70% of the addressable market. … Read More

Earlier this month, I visited Mumbai and Delhi and was impressed to learn first-hand about the market opportunity for digital media in India.

120 Million Internet Users

In a country of 1.2 billion, roughly 10% are connected to the Internet. Given 600 Million people under the age of 25, the growth in Internet usage over the next few years will be higher than any other nation of its size. It is not surprising that India will have more Internet users than the United States within the next 3-5 years.

Users benefit from being connected to their friends through an engaging platform. Developers benefit through access to a platform with a large set of users and an open graph. Advertisers benefit from being able to target their digital campaigns to a much higher degree than available alternatives. … Read More

How Technology will Transform the Media Industry in 2012

Happy New Year from all of us at Polar Mobile! Below are our top tech trends for media to watch for in 2012.

1. HTML5 powering the mobile App economy

More and more Apps will be built using HTML5 to expedite and streamline the development of mobile experiences. The move to HTML5 will allow for companies to leverage existing web design and development skills, as opposed to finding mobile-specific skillset.

2. Seamless media consumption experience cross-device

Taking a page from Amazon’s Kindle Sync concept, publishers will need to enable users to “start reading” on one device and “continue reading” on a second or even third device. … Read More

Singapore1

This past week I had the opportunity to travel with the Governor General of Canada on an official State Visit to South East Asia. One of the countries we were most impressed with was Singapore. There is much to learn from the small country that is surrounded by giants, as we observed many examples of world-class excellence.

Singapore can only be described as a country that wants to be the global leader in whatever they get into, always shooting for gold.

For example, they went into producing orchids in the past few years and are now the world’s third largest exporter of the flower. … Read More
